Jennifer Singelyn, YAG

Hello, I am Jen Singelyn, one of the Young Adult Group (YAG) representatives on the Pastoral Council. I have been a member of the Newman Center Catholic Community for two years, and this is my second year on the Council. As a young adult representative, it is my role to bring the voice of those graduate students and other young adults to the Council. Graduate students are somewhere between college life and the working world, and have unique needs. Understanding and meeting these needs is one of the goals that I have for this upcoming year.

Since I am not from San Diego, the Newman Center has become my part of my home away from home. The sense of community that I have found here has been wonderful, and I hope that everyone who enters into our community can find that. I know that it is not always easy to step into a new situation and be at ease. I hope to help find ways to build community and help new young adults feel welcome in the community. I also feel it is important to bridge the gaps that can exist among the students, young adults, and members of the resident community. My involvement in the 'workout campaign' has helped me to get to know members of the resident community. I encourage each of you to find a service or a ministry that the Newman Center has to offer, and get involved. I have found that getting involved is the best way to feel nourished and fulfilled by the faith and love of the community.

I look forward to meeting each of you and sharing your needs and concerns with the Pastoral Council. Please feel free to email me or stop me after mass any time.

~Jen
