Ayra Maggay, Co-Advisor of Student Ministry
Hello! My thoughts flow most easily when things are numbered and sectioned. So, please excuse the format of my information…here’s a little (or a lot) about me:
- What I do: I am a recent graduate of UCSD with a bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering. I am now working as a Design Engineer at a medical device company in the area. I am so happy to have the opportunity to apply my education in a field I am passionate about.
- Where I’m from: I am originally from Mountain View, California, and I have unabashed Bay Area pride.
- Likes: The love of my life is my 10-year-old sister, Raya Anne, and she amazes me daily with her intelligence, her humor, her strength, and her many talents. Reasonably, I usually like what you like, and I am likely to try anything at least once. And I really, really like steak.
- Why I’m here: I was grateful to find the Newman Center my freshman year of college, and I’ve been tied to this community ever since. I love the closeness of our community, Fr. John Paul’s, Fr. Dominic’s, and Fr. Jairo’s homilies, our focus on social justice and the call to think on a more global perspective, the quality events that our community puts on, and basically, you really can’t get enough of all of these Newman Center folks.
- Where you can find me: I find that Prayer Circle and Candlelight Mass are an excellent contemplative addition to my weekly routine, and the food at TND is much better than anything I’ll ever make on a Thursday night. And I hear those five ministries put on some pretty amazing events…so you might see me at one or twenty of those events this school year. And if ever you get lost in a crowd of Catholics, all you have to do is listen for the ridiculous burping in the background, follow that sound, and that’s where I’ll be =).
I’m looking forward to meeting you! I hope you find what you are looking for in the Newman Center – welcome to your community.
