About Maureen

I have been involved with the Catholic Community Newman Center since 2006, when Father John Paul asked me to coordinate the Stewardship Committee. After two years of heading that committee, including helping to establish the Parish Pay program and working on the Building Tomorrow campaign, I was asked to be advisor for the Social Justice ministry, which is my passion. My social justice and community outreach work over the years have included working as a friendship counselor for Birthline, a pregnancy support center; delivering meals for Mama’s Kitchen and Meals on Wheels; and serving as parish liaison with refugee services. Presently I am also serving in the Ignatian Volunteer Corps as an activities director for a low income senior residence run by Catholic Charities.

I have been married to my husband, Bill, for 39 years, and we have been blessed with three children who have grown into wonderful young adults. We are also grandparents to three little ones. I started my college career as a chemistry major, but earned my BA in Economics, worked for over 30 years as a clinical laboratory scientist, and have extensive background in faith formation, serving as a catechist in this diocese for the last 30 years. I coordinated the RCIA process in our former parish for 15 years, and for four years I was coordinator of the K-5 faith formation program for 250 students in the parish. For the past two years, I have assisted with the RCIA process here at the Newman Center. It is a privilege for me to serve with the young people of this community, and to help nurture their growth as people of faith, as they nurture my faith through their commitment, energy, and enthusiasm for following the way of Jesus.
