“Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint [him] with oil in the name of the Lord.”

All whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age are invited and encouraged to celebrate the sacrament. Anointing was, for a time, popularly called last rites, but in recent decades, the Church has reclaimed this sacrament as a healing sacrament, to be celebrated at the beginning of a serious illness if possible.
